It's Gotta be the Oven

I have tried more than once to make cupcakes from a book that Mom got me for Christmas. While the Valentine's ones turned out ok, they weren't anything that I would have taken in public. So, after burning 24 more cupcakes last weekend, Riley and I went to Mom's house on Saturday to borrow the oven. I'm convinced that my oven is going out - there is no way that I can burn that much stuff on my own... After many hours - I have finally done some cupcakes from my decorating book. The process was no where near as smooth and easy as it looks, but the results weren't bad. Riley had a blast working on her own, too. She helped Great Grandma cut out the yummy tea cookies, while Grandad and I helped in the quality control area ensuring that each batch was safe for human consumption!

Mmmmm... Cotton Candy...

Need I say More?

And, we jump ahead to Easter in the Park

Our city held its annual Easter Egg hunt in the part last Sunday. Riley did SO much better with the Easter Bunny this year. She had a great time.

Happy Birthday to Lacy (just a few months early)

Just thought this was cute. What that dog puts up with amazes me...

I have video - but it's too large to upload. I will try to find the editing software.

How we Roll

In February of 09, San Leon had their annual Mardi Gras Golf Cart Parade. We COULD NOT miss this! It was benefitting the San Leon Volunteer Fire Dept. We all know they were hit extremely hard by Ike. So - loads of fun and a good cause! We loaded up the golf cart and headed down there. There were four carts in our group - but there were about 70 in the parade. It was wonderful! Oh - and thanks TreeHugginDogLover for the title. Sorry you and the Turkey had to miss it this year - but once we find another trailer, we'll be going again.

Crazy fun and even crazier people.
Some folks were on riding lawn mowers, some on Golf Cart Limos and even one guy on a bicycle that looked like it was powered by a lawn mower engine. Gotta love San Leon!

The weather held up till the last bar on the parade route. Luckily - they served food, so we just hung out till it stopped raining. But - that in itself is another story...

Don't like Ike

Just for those of you who might not have seen my neighborhood in the aftermath of Ike (Sept 2008), here are a few.

Loads of fish in the street. Yes - those are fish...

Swimming pool at the Yacht Club - full of lake water and a couple of boats.

Entrance to the Yacht Club. This was the road on the way in. Keep in mind, too, this was at least 3 days after the storm.

Luckily for us - except for alot of tree clean up - this fence was the extent of our damage. I cannot say the same for our neighborhood. We are over 6 months post-Ike and there are still several boarded up homes - some waiting for drywall, some waiting for the demo crews. Almost weekly there is another house being torn down. It kills me to see all of the older homes going. I hope they will not be replaced with cookie cutter ones - the city won't have the same charm.

Once again - I fail at posting...

Obviously there has been alot going on since November of last year... Oops! Riley is doing wonderful in school and absolutely loves her new class. Of course, Alex is still in her class, so that makes everything ok. She told us the other day that Alex and Adam are her boyfriends. Oh my! Daddy wants to make sure he meets these boys. Can't wait for when she is old enough to date to see how he is.

Anyways, she is quite the little social butterfly. It is so amazing to me how much they retain. She will still ask us about things that happened months ago!
